Paper Couture

The paper couture project objective was to recreate a to-scale couture dress, out of paper materials. When doing my research on couture dresses, since I was not very familiar with couture fashion, 3D printed dresses by Noa Raviv. The particular dress I took a shine to was the one from her Hard Copy collection. My dress was created by using tracing paper, black-coloured paper, pens, paint marker, and tape.

Birdhouse

The birdhouse project began with preparations to create it by using SketchUp. Once the design was decided on and built in the 3D modelling software, we were tasked with building a true-to-size birdhouse. My birdhouse consists of the materials: maple wood, wood glue, pins, sunshine yellow acrylic paint, and a finishing varnish.

Chinese Paper Wreath

Chinese New Year 2020 was the year of the rat. As a Design Formation tradition students had to create a paper wreath with only three sheets of card stock; one gold, and two red. The wreaths were then put up for auction and the proceeds went towards a scholarship for further Design formation students.

Sweet Phi Brand Identity

Sweet phi brand identity was my independent project during my fourth term at DF. I wanted to explore more brand work, which led me to reach out to a friend of mine that had just begun a small business. It was my first time working with an actual client and it was their first time working with a designer. It was a learning process for us both but in the end, I created a new visual identity that effectively elevates her products. Though stressful, it was very rewarding to see my work go into use in the real world.

Visual Identity

Creating a visual identity for my design career was a very difficult task. I had to act as the designer and client. This helped me think more critically and not get too lost or fixated on a single idea. I enjoyed the freedom of choosing all the elements I wanted to include in my visual identity. In the end, I designed an identity that fits my work and allows for my to grow as a designer.

Chanoyu For You Cookbook

Creating a four recipe cookbook was a typographic project given to groups of four to three members. I was partnered with Zoey Nguyen and Emma Heckman. We decided on doing a cookbook based on Japanese tea ceremonies and the tea/snacks that are commonly seen in them. Working with my group members helped teach me how to work as a productive, creative team. Ever since this project, I have looked forward to future group projects.

Magazine

For the magazine project, we were allowed to choose our own topic to focus on in addition to the constraints. We were given a specific word count that we had to include throughout the spreads, as well as a 150-word introduction paragraph that had to be written ourselves.

Iconic Designers Exhibit

The iconic designer I based my exhibit on is Olafur Eliasson. My exhibit is under the name “works so far”, and it showcases some exhibits that Eliasson has worked on in chronological order throughout the years. I thought it would be interesting to have an exhibit to show off his exhibits. e circulation paths follow a circle from the right entrance of the intro wall, then the Stonehenge-inspired displays, with the interactive light art piece in the centre. e northern light inspired centrepiece will be made by shining coloured lights onto a 15ft curtain. Ripples in the fabric will further add to the northern light illusion. is piece will also be very on par with the type of artwork and exhibits Eliasson is known for.

Sunday Soy Etsy Trade Show Booth

For this project, I was tasked to find a local business that had a platform on Etsy. I then had to get into contact with Sunday Soy in order to use their brand identity for a hypothetical trade show pop-up booth. I constructed the space in SketchUp with the parameters of staying within a 10' x 10' space. I recreated their merchandise, made new furniture fixtures, and models from the 3D warehouse.
